Product Manager (Learning and Professional Development)

Location - Wimbledon, South West London
Type - Permanent

The Role

This role sits at the intersection of technology, business and design – balancing the problems/needs of the customer with business interests and technical viability; delivering both customer and business value. As Product Manager (Learning and Professional Development), you will be responsible for discovering, developing and delivering the what and the why of the product, and jointly responsible (with the Project Manager and dev teams) for the how and the when. 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Guiding the success of the following CIPD products – the new Learning and Professional Development platform. Responsible for leading activities responsible for the delivery, and continuous improvement of the product. The role spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides critical cross-functional leadership

  • Maximising the products' customer value and alignment to and achievement of CIPD’s business goals

  • Managing Stakeholder: working across the business with key stakeholders to create a clear, overarching vision statement that delivers differentiated value based on customer need and provides direction and a decision-making framework for product and content teams

  • Managing the product design process – the collaborative generation of desirable, viable and feasible product ideas (to solve business and users’ problems/needs) from experts, users and CIPD stakeholders, turning those ideas into business and customer value

  • Inputting into CIPD’s Commercial learning strategy: articulating and commissions customer research and market analysis to understand and solve customers’ problems/need, CIPD commercial and content strategies and delivering customer relevance and value

  • Coordinating the development of the product business case. Accountability: owning the business case going forward, including the product's success measures (built out of any underlying hypotheses) and ROI

  • Translating business strategy, market analysis, technical trends and user needs into product strategy using a product roadmap – a high-level summary of the vision and development direction 

  • Managing product releases – coordinating teams and activities, managing dependencies. Owning the release plan, including production schedules, communicating it to the team and stakeholders

  • Defining features, balancing business requirement and user experience. Prioritising feature set according to strategic goals and customer needs. Maintaining and prioritising a data-informed product backlog. Clearly communicating prioritisation decisions (and evidence/data used to make those decisions) to team members and stakeholders.

What You'll Need To Be Successful

  • Demonstrable experience of Product Management, ideally in the Learning technology sector

  • LMS/VLE technology and student management experience

  • Attention to detail and business awareness, project management, organisational and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to co-ordinate several streams of work simultaneously and work well as part of a team

  • Excellent influencing and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

User Experience Manager

The Role

As User Experience Manager you will provide UX Design and UX Research best practice oversight for all new online customer experiences at the CIPD. You will deliver valuable and relevant online solutions that balance the needs of the customer with business interests and technical viability. You will also be responsible for conceiving and conducting user research, turning research into actionable insight, and translating insight into tangible artefacts that communicate user needs to development teams and stakeholders. You will act as champion of a user-centred design approach and rapidly tests and iterates designs with users along the project lifecycle. 

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing UX and best practice oversight for all new CIPD websites and online touchpoints and tools

  • Championing and fostering a user-centred design approach across Product and Content teams at the CIPD and external development partners

  • Facilitating the product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products

  • Conducting user research. You will plan, design and carry out research activities with a diverse and inclusive range of users, and turn research data into clear and actionable findings

  • Translating user needs into tangible artefacts to communicate to users, developers and stakeholders, via sketches, prototypes, mockups and wireframes optimised for a wide range of devices and interfaces

  • Conducting regular usability testing, taking a user centred design approach before testing and iterating designs along the project lifecycle

  • Acting as CIPD’s online accessibility champion; drive improvements across CIPD’s online platforms to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

  • Keeping up-to-date with developments and trends in user experience, Design Thinking and user-centred design. Understands how digital technology is changing user behaviour. Share knowledge and new ideas with colleagues. Contributes to CIPD’s Digital Transformation strategy

What You'll Need To Be Successful

  • Experience of UX design and UX research

  • Expertise in standard UX software such as Sketch, Balsamiq, Azure, UXPin, etc

  • A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns

  • A clear understanding of the importance of user-centered design and design thinking

  • A good grasp of technology (e.g. WCMS), business strategy and human psychology to deliver online solutions that balances the needs of the customer with business interests and technical viability

  • Ability to rapidly test and iterate designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently

  • A good understanding of usability and accessibility best practice

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate UX design processes, ideas, and solutions to non-technical stakeholders

  • Excellent influencing and stakeholder engagement skills

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills

  • Ability to co-ordinate several projects simultaneously

Senior Research Adviser: Data, Technology and AI

The Role

The CIPD Research Delivery team have an opportunity for a Senior Research Adviser to join them on a permanent basis. As Senior Research Adviser, you will provide comprehensive research and HR practice development expertise to the CIPD in the area of data, technology and AI. This will enable the Institute to take a forward focused leadership and insight position across all aspects of designated people management and development fields, and to act as an expert and external voice on the areas of workplace technology and people/HR analytics.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Acting as the CIPD expert on workplace technology, AI and people data

  • Developing, managing and delivering specific research projects, leading internal and external stakeholders

  • Providing practice-based insight and leadership in selected people management research areas to internal and external customers

  • Leading the development of research which contributes to the Research, Policy and Content directorates value chain. This includes partnering with CIPD content experts and communication leads to develop, deliver, and disseminate research and thought leadership findings as well as practitioner focused content

  • Working with the CIPD Press Office and CIPD Marketing and Communications department to maximise media coverage and outreach to CIPD members via CIPD communication channels

  • Working collaboratively to lead research projects to produce outputs that are delivered on time and within budget to agreed customer needs

  • Planning and undertaking dissemination activities to ensure maximum impact for all areas of research in line with agreed performance measures

  • Providing expert input to the ongoing development of CIPD’s professional standards and the new CIPD Profession Map

  • Contributing to the conferences organised by the Institute by generating programme ideas, identifying speakers, and facilitating seminars as needed

  • Developing on a continuing basis personal knowledge in the field and to advise CIPD members, staff and other stakeholders on issues relevant to the discipline

  • Actively setting up and maintaining a wide-ranging external network of contacts so as to ensure CIPD output and voice in relevant fora and vice versa

What You'll Need To Be Successful

  • Membership of the CIPD and/or a post-graduate in your areas of specialist expertise

  • Extensive practice or academic interest in HR or a particular aspect of people management, and experience of applying quantitative and/or qualitative methods in field, and data analysis

  • An excellent understanding of the key issues of the moment and ability to give clear leadership and insight on latest thinking in your field of expertise

  • An in-depth understanding of how these fit into wider HR practice issues

  • Ability to represent the Institute in public, sometimes at the highest level, is required. Disseminating via speaking on public platforms and doing written and broadcast interviews are key requirements of the job

  • Good oral and written communication skills, an analytical mind and the ability to relate to, and get the best out of, a wide range of colleagues and other stakeholders

  • Project management skills and exploratory research skills, together with the ability to manage a complex and demanding workload

  • A high degree of initiative, drive and self-discipline, together with the ability to work as part of a team

  • Good understanding of how their area expertise fits into the wider CIPD strategic direction and how they can contribute across the CIPD is essential
